There are 153.6 million women in the U.S. (the total number of women in the U.S. as of 2007) who have the choice of having a breast augmentation surgery.

Some of these women could have a breast surgery after a mastectomy or a lumpectomy performed to treat breast cancer (182,460 cancer cases found as of 2008). At least 26,909 women have had a breast implant removal surgery for some reason or another so far.

Breast augmentation, whether for cosmetic purposes or for medical reasons is a plastic surgery decision that is steeped in a women’s idea about her body. She might decide to not have a breast reconstruction surgery after a lumpectomy or a mastectomy, or she might decide to have one.

She might decide to have a breast enhancement as a feel-good treat for herself or she might decide to have one to further herself in her profession.
